How will social networking affect the college classroom in the coming decade?
- Everything has its own pros and con and one should always be adjustable in any situation provided they should also be comfortable. Student might be distracted with the intervention of social media/networking in the classroom teaching. However they should be educated with media literacy and let them know the good values of it.while the greatest advantage of the social networking is the enhancement of the student-teacher interaction. Which actually help in knowing how the learners learn and in what ways do they learn. This was proven by the Turner and Thompson (2014) study on the reasons for why some first-year college students were successful and why do some drop the university. The critical component for the success was the student-teacher relationship. Students who develop interactive relationship with their teacher is able to achieve success. Thus their study suggested to adopt new teaching techniques, strategies and programs that would foster collaborative learning environment that motivates student to be self-reflective and active participation in constructing knowledge. Integration of social netoworking in classroom teaching can promote collaborative learning.
Will the 21st century classroom really be significantly different from that of the past?
- There will be a significant difference in the classroom. Here classroom comprises of classroom state-of-Art, teaching curriculum and the teaching-learning methodologies.
currently the classroom is confined within the four walls while with the technology the classroom will be the miniature of global village and information/ resources for reference can be accessible and available everywhere.
Are we ready/prepared for the change?
It depends.
